INSTALLING JABBER ON A PERSONALLY-OWNED MAC DEVICE To install Jabber on your personally-owned device you must be connected to CSUN’s GlobalProtect VPN. Go to the Software Downloads page and log in with your CSUN credentials. Select Cisco Jabber Smartphone for MAC and follow the installation instructions.
Download Cisco Jabber
- Jabber Download and Install. Contact your system administrator for instructions on how to download and install Cisco Jabber for Windows or Cisco Jabber for Mac.
- This Cisco Jabber provides the current version 12.8.2.302880 for Mac to install on your device. The installation number of the Cisco Jabber is 1,000,000+ This number proves how much favorable the Cisco Jabber is among the users.
I know I'm coming across this months later, but maybe I can shed some light for other users experiencing this same problem:
I used AppZapper to remove a copy of Cisco VPN I had installed on my system and ended up having the exact same issue as Glenn when trying to reinstall. What I did was this:
- Open Terminal and do the following:
- su (be careful when giving yourself root, of course)
- cd /opt/cisco/anyconnect/bin
- ls (to see if there's a vpn_uninstall.sh file)
- If there is, then run the following command:
sh vpn_uninstall.sh
- You'll get this confirmation message in the Terminal:
Successfully removed Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client from the system.
Now go back to your .dmg or vpn.pkg file (whatever your source for installing is). Now when you get to the Destination part, you should get no error and you can proceed with the installation.

- Apple OS X El Capitan 10.11 (or later)
Installation
- Download Cisco Jabber for Mac.
- Double-click the downloaded file from your browser and then double-click the Install_Cisco-Jabber-Mac.sparkle_guided.pkg file to start the Cisco Jabber installer wizard.
- When the Welcome screen displays, click Continue.
- Read the license agreement if you wish and then click Continue. Click Agree to accept the terms of the license agreement and continue with the installation.
- You may be prompted to select the disk where you want to install Jabber. Select your hard drive and then click Continue.
- Click Install to perform the standard installation.
- At the prompt, enter your administrator account password for the Mac and click Install Software.
- When the software has finished installing, click Close.
Sign in
- To launch Jabber, open your Applications folder and double-click the Cisco Jabber.app icon.
- Enter your sunetid@stanford (for University affiliates), SID@stanfordmed.org (for SHC affiliates), or your login ID@stanfordchildrens.org (SCH affiliates) and click Continue.
- For Stanford University affiliates, the WebLogin screen appears. Enter your SUNet ID and your SUNet ID password and click Login. Two-step authentication may also be required. Stanford Children's Health and Stanford Health Care affiliates will be prompted to enter their password.
Sign out
- Click Jabber in the Apple menu bar and then click Sign Out.
